If you're looking for an excellent, intelligent young dog, get in touch with us quickly before Jill gets snapped-up! She's absolutely ideal for a beginner - a joy to work. Jill's an exeptionally quick learner with an excellent pedigree. Her sire is no less than Gilchrist's Mac.

Jill's work is improving every day and I've no doubt she'd make a first class trials dog in the right hands. She's also a lovely looking dog with an excellent temperament and a huge appetite for work.

For farm applications, all Jill needs now is fairly regular work (with close attention to make sure she remembers what she's been taught) and she'll make a first class sheepdog.

She can do short-to-medium outruns, keeps her sheep together well and doesn't upset them. She also stops instantly on command. She walks up quietly to her sheep and responds well to a little driving but needs more practice. Whistle commands won't be a problem, she picked up the whistle command for "stop" in just one short lesson!

Bob's a lovely looking dog with an excellent temperament and a huge appetite for working.

A late starter in his sheepdog career (through no fault of his own) - Bob's going to be an exceptional sheepdog. He's certainly made a great start with his training on sheep and he takes his work seriously.

Already doing short outruns and keeping his sheep together well, Bob's particularly useful at getting stubborn sheep off a fence or hedge. He takes his work very seriously. He stops fairly well, knows his flanks and is super-confident with sheep. He'd be ideal for "heavy" lowland breeds.

Bob's over-enthusiasm will temper when he gets to work on a flock and has to start working for a living!

Hard to Stop?

Is Your Dog Hard to Stop When Working Sheep?

"When the sheep stop, the dog should keep on coming . . ."

Personally, I don't attach too much importance to stopping a dog when it's in its early stages of training.

I believe it's more important to preserve the dog's confidence and a "good stop" can easily be achieved later.

It's much better if a young dog "keeps coming" rather than stopping too easily.
